About me

I write about the economy and financial markets for Bloomberg View. Before that I wrote for The Economist. I have worked at the world’s largest hedge fund and read every FOMC transcript since May, 1987.

I took the header picture for this site when I visited the base camp of Mt. Everest (Tibet side) in 2009.

Matthew – I’m reaching out because of your Bloomberg post 7/12/13 (which also led me to your prior posts on the topic) more or less advocating an abolition of broad money. I am interested in comparing notes. I have done extensive development work on a commercial system that would also tend to diminish money multiplier effects (among many other profound macroeconomic effects) but does not require any sort of consensus as would be needed for forcibly enacted reforms. I think you might find it interesting.
